Everything seemed to be happening so quickly. Explanation of why I had horrible headaches, weakness, and vision problems.
We trusted our Doctors and at the same time overwhelmed with the decision, or lack of decision to operate. It seemed we had no choice.
My sister and father were adamant about received a 2nd opinion. So on Tuesday, October 28th. We got one.
They ran up to Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles and spoke with Dr. John Yu, one of the leading brain surgeons in the country. He is part of the Dr. Keith Black dream team of brain surgery at Cedars.
My father and sister returned from Los Angeles, and suggested that Paul have a conversation with Dr. Yu, that same afternoon.
(Paul writing) It was around 2pm in the afternoon when Chuck and Caroline returned from Los Angeles. Our conversation was extremely intense. Chuck explained the conversation that he and Caroline had with Dr. Yu and that Marni and I needed to make the most informed decision possible. He gave me Dr. Yu cell phone and asked make the call.
My call with Dr. Yu was straight to the point. He told me that with the kind of tumor Marni had she needed to be in Hospital that had every possible resource (clinical trails) available to her and that Cedars had those resources at her disposal.
It was clear to me that we had to make the move. Immediately.
Paul came into the Hospital room and while he looked at me and began to get weepy, told me that we had to talk. He explained to me about my father and sister’s trip to LA. The resources that were available to us at Cedars-Sinai, and the next step we needed to make and have the surgery done by Dr. Yu and his team.
The conversation with Dr. Leary was handled by my father and Paul. Mostly by my dad, I think Paul was too emotionally connected to the Dr. to have an intelligent conversation about why we were choosing to go to another facility.
Dr. Leary seemed to be disappointed, not because we choose a different facility but I think because we had developed a bond with him on a different level.
Off to Cedars-Sinai…in an ambulance…
